How to use it
Press Light the fire (or just click the hearth) and the flames come alive with a warm, ever-changing crackle. Give it a Stoke to flare it up and shake loose a shower of sparks, and use the slider to set the volume. Leave it running in a tab for cozy background ambience while you work, read or drift off.
Why a synthesized fire?
Looping fireplace videos give themselves away — you start to hear the same pop every 30 seconds. Here the crackle is built from filtered noise and randomly-timed pops, so it never repeats. The flames are drawn from hundreds of little particles rising off the logs, so they flicker differently every second, just like the real thing.
Frequently asked questions
Why is there no sound at first?
Browsers only start audio after you interact with the page. Click Light the fire (or the hearth) and make sure your device isn't muted.
Can I leave it playing in the background?
Yes — it's designed for that. Keep the tab open for ambient crackle while you focus, read or fall asleep.
Does it use a video or sound file?
No. The flames are drawn with canvas and the crackle is synthesized with the Web Audio API, so nothing is downloaded or streamed.
Is anything uploaded?
Never. Everything runs on your device and nothing leaves it.
