Remove Invisible & Zero-Width Characters

Paste text to find and strip hidden characters — zero-width spaces, byte-order marks, bidi marks, variation selectors and Unicode tag characters used in some AI-text watermarks. See exactly what's there, then copy clean text.

What this cleans

It scans for zero-width spaces (U+200B), the byte-order mark (U+FEFF), soft hyphens, bidirectional marks and isolates, variation selectors, Unicode tag characters (U+E0000–E007F), and non-breaking / exotic spaces. Truly invisible ones are removed; odd spaces are converted to a normal space. The highlighted preview shows a red dot for each removed character and an amber marker for each converted space, and hovering tells you exactly which character it was.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded — safe for sensitive documents, code and private text. Great before pasting into code editors, spreadsheets, CMS fields or forms that choke on hidden characters.

Why hidden characters matter

They break things quietly: a zero-width space inside a keyword ruins search and SEO, a non-breaking space breaks a code identifier, a byte-order mark corrupts a CSV header, and tag characters can carry a hidden signal through copied text. Because they're invisible, you can stare at the text and never see the problem — this tool makes it visible and fixes it in one pass.

Frequently asked questions

What are invisible characters?

Unicode characters that take no visible space or masquerade as spaces — zero-width spaces, BOMs, soft hyphens, bidi marks, exotic spaces, variation selectors and tag characters. They sneak in from PDFs, sites, chat apps and AI tools.

Does this remove AI watermark characters?

It strips hidden character categories some tools use, including zero-width and tag characters. It can't detect watermarks encoded in word choice, but it removes hidden characters carried in the text.

Is my text uploaded?

No — it's all in-browser JavaScript, nothing leaves your device.

Why does pasted text have hidden characters?

Rich sources embed formatting: non-breaking spaces, BOMs, soft hyphens and zero-width joiners. Invisible on screen, but they cause real bugs.
